- Muscle Milk: This product tastes great and provides you with both a protein and carb refill after a workout
-
Fish Oil:
Increases the body's production of "good" eicosanoids. The increase in "good" eicosanoids causes the enhanced release of growth hormone
from the pituitary gland, and this increases muscle mass. These same "good" eicosanoids increase blood flow and oxygen transfer to improve
endurance. "Good" eicosanoids are superb anti-inflammatory agents and work like aspirin to relieve pain. Finally, the combination of
increased growth hormone release (to repair damaged tissue) and decreased recovery from pain would allow athletes to recover at a faster
rate from either an intense workout or a game.
-
Multivitamin:
The foundation of any serious sports nutrition program starts with a good multivitamin supplement. Endurance athletes should adhere to this
maxim, as sufficient levels of essential vitamins and minerals are imperative to optimal performance and recovery from training.
Following are just a few of the reasons you should be supplementing with a broad range of vitamins and minerals:
- Many state-of-the-art dietary supplements are designed to take your body beyond "normal" biochemical functioning to optimum functioning.
- It is difficult if not impossible to consistently eat "three square meals a day." In addition, the quality of food in most people's diets is declining due to modern agricultural practices and increased consumption of highly processed and refined foods.
- Myriad research reports clearly show that many supplements improve health and performance by supplying certain nutrients in amounts that are not obtainable from your diet alone.
- Intense exercise creates a need for increased levels of nutrients, particularly antioxidants.
